As we read this week about John the Baptist and his work of preparing the way of the Lord, we are reminded that the coming of Christ was indeed foretold by the prophets in the Old Testament. As we read their foretelling anew, knowing as we do that Jesus did come to save us all, our anticipation in the season of Advent becomes richer and even more meaningful. As we celebrate this Sunday by lighting the Candle of Love in the Advent wreath, we reflect on God's everlasting love, so evident.
3 “In the wilderness prepare
the way for the Lord;
make straight in the desert
a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.
5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all people will see it together.
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
