As we gather for worship tomorrow, we remember that our community of faith is part of the larger community - the worldwide community of believers. Jesus came for us all, and the feast of faith that we celebrate at the Table of Christ each Sunday is a communal meal that we share with others around the world. Indeed, the first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church.
The meal we celebrate each Sunday is one of the greatest gifts that Jesus left us in his loving legacy of grace and connection. At this Table, we gather - truly, as brothers and sisters in Christ, as members of the family of God. The Table is a solemn moment as we remember that Passover meal that Jesus shared with his disciples in the upper room, during which he asked us to remember him at the Table. That meal was preparation for what was to come as Jesus walked the path to the Garden of Gethsemane, to Calvary - and beyond. It is a moment of realization of Good Friday - and Easter morn. Here, we express our gratitude for Jesus' great sacrifice on our behalf - and our joy in the eternal life he earned for us.
Come join us, as we welcome all God's children to the Table of Christ.
